Is Popping Pimples Good or Bad?
Popping pimples is certainly not going to help in controlling the outbreak of acne. In fact, it is one of the most common causes of acne. It's best to let the pimples heal on their own. Many a times, people use their fingernails to squeeze the pimples. If you don't clean your hands with an antibacterial solution, these bacteria that get transferred from the pimple to your fingernails will spread to other parts as well. Another common effect of popping pimples is formation of acne scars and blemishes. Some people make the mistake of squeezing pimples that are not yet fully developed or are deep rooted under the skin. If the pimple is deep rooted, popping it might push the debris or bacteria deeper into the dermis. The infection is pushed further down and this can lead to inflammation and scarring of the skin.
Popping Pimples with a Needle
Though it would be better to let the pimple heal on its own, but if you cannot resist the temptation, make sure that it does have a white head. To pop a fully developed pimple, you will need a sterilized needle, rubbing alcohol, tissues, cotton or gauze pads. You should first wash the affected area. It would be a good idea to take steam for 10 minutes or take a bath in warm water to soften the skin. Now you need to wash your hands with an anti-bacterial hand wash. Keep the gauze pads or tissues ready. Sterilize the needle by placing it in boiling water. You can also hold it over a flame for a couple of minutes. Now prick the pimple with the needle and squeeze the skin around it very gently in order to drain the pus and blood. Use the tissues for cleaning the pus and blood. Once all of it has been drained, use a clean tissue to wipe the area. Hold ice on the popped pimple for a minute. Dab the popped pimple with a cotton ball soaked in an antiseptic lotion. Make sure that you clean the surrounding area also. Wash your hands with an anti-bacterial hand wash and let the popped pimple heal.
Popping pimples with hand makes one more vulnerable to infections. Though using a sterilized needle minimizes the chances of an infection, but even that is not a recommended course of action. Popping pimples is definitely not a method of acne control. So, however tempted you may be, try to resist the urge to squeeze pimples. If you have acne prone skin, it would be better to consult a dermatologist. Though the market is flooded with several acne skin care products, it would be better to consult a dermatologist to find out which products will work well for you. Many teenagers face the problem of acne, so don't get upset when you spot a pimple. Don't touch these pimples every now and then. Be very careful while applying any skin care products. If you are going to a party, you can hide the pimples using a concealer meant for acne prone skin.
