Sevilla have insisted there is no truth in reports suggesting an agreement has already been struck to bring in Giovani dos Santos.
The Mexico international is widely expected to leave Tottenham after a frustrating three years at White Hart Lane during which time he has been unable to convince Harry Redknapp that he deserves a regular place in the side.
Having been loaned out each season since he moved to Spurs from Barcelona in 2008, a permanent departure appears more likely this summer and Sevilla were understood to be leading the chase.
The Spanish club's sporting director, Ramon Rodriguez Monchi, admits they are interested but says there has not even been any contact with Spurs yet.
"The club have not spoken with the player or with Spurs," he said.
"It is certain that we are interested in the footballer but we have not spoken with the kid and it is not true that we have signed a pre-contract.
"This is not legal and Sevilla always takes this subject seriously."
