Bolton Wanderers winger Chung-yong Lee faces at least nine months on the sidelines after breaking his leg against Newport County.
The South Korea international was stretchered off during the first half of Bolton's 3-1 friendly victory over Newport on Saturday.
He was immediately placed in a leg brace and was taken to hospital where he underwent an operation on a broken right leg.
Lee sustained a double fracture to his lower right leg and he is now likely to miss the majority of the upcoming Premier League season.
Trotters boss Owen Coyle told the club's official website: "We will make sure Chung-yong gets all the support he needs, as now it is all about his recovery and well-being. That is the most important thing.
"The operation went well and we would like to pass on our thanks to the medical staff involved."
The 23-year-old has been an influential performer for Bolton since moving to the Reebok Stadium two years ago and he has scored nine goals in over 70 appearances for the club. |
