Dancing With The Stars has long had a history of controversial figures on the show. Bristol Palin and Kate Gosselin are two who come to mind as being particularly unpopular among a large segment of the population. Executives for the show have never apologized for those decisions either, instead running contestants onto the show whom they know will create a buzz. The latest choice for the show in the buzzworthy category is Chaz Bono. The 42-year-old transgender offspring and Sonny and Cher Bono, Chaz is sure to keep up with the tradition of controversy of DWTS.
Said Conrad Green, the show’s executive producer, "We’ve always invited a really broad range of people onto the show. We’ve had people from every sort of edge of the political spectrum. We’ve had people from all types of professions within show business. Green called Bono "compelling" and added that the combination of his background as "Hollywood royalty" and "the personal changes in his life" were the major reason that people would tune in. He also noted, "We think he’s about as interesting a person to have on the show."
Asked about Chaz being transgender, Green noted that there was a "bit of a fuss" over inviting a transgender contestant. But Green added, "He’s a remarkably strong character. I think once the show’s underway, people will either root for Chaz because of his dancing or not. I think one of the joys of our show is you see a different side of people. You see them struggling to try to achieve something positive. You get to know them differently." _________________ mrsamct |
